I taught foreign languages for twenty-five years and many of my students were under the false impression that upon leaving my classroom, they would be able to walk into a hotel in Bogotá, Colombia and rattle off everything they had learned. Unfortunately, my voice (or the voice of the occasional native speaker on CDs) may not be exactly like what my student is experiencing at the Hilton Bogotá.
